Hey everyone!
I wanted to share how polo teams actually prepare before the season starts. If you think it's just “riding horses around” — nope, not even close. Especially if you're talking about top-tier places like Argentina Polo School, where players from all over the world come to train.
Horses come first
Training starts with the horses. Each one has a personalized program: diet, warm-up routines, and fitness sessions. Vets do full checkups, then the horses gradually ramp up in workload — starting with basic fitness, then speed, agility, and responsiveness to commands.
Players train just as hard
Every morning begins with physical conditioning — coordination, balance, strength, and stamina work. Then it’s time for on-field practice: hitting technique, ball control, positioning, and teamwork. They play a lot of chukkers (like time periods in polo) to build real game chemistry. After that, it's time for video review — and yes, in places like Argentina Polo School, they even use drones to film overhead so you get a full tactical view. Super cool!
Tactics, team bonding & mental focus
Besides fitness and drills, team chemistry and mental strength are a huge part of the prep. There are tactical sessions, strategy discussions, and scenario planning. Sports psychologists often work with players too — handling pressure is key at high levels of the game.
Friendly matches before the season
Toward the end of camp, teams play scrimmage games with other squads. This is the final test — you see how the team works together, how the horses respond, and where adjustments are still needed.
Bottom line — preseason camps are intense. This is where real teams are built. Players level up, horses get match-fit, and strategy gets sharpened. Without this phase, there’s no success during the season — and no fun either, if you care about playing seriously.
If you’re curious about polo or thinking of doing a camp yourself, I’d definitely recommend checking out Argentina Polo School. These people really know how to shape champions 🐎🔥
