Ginette, 81, lit up a smoke and had a pull on her beer, I ended up sitting with her, all afternoon, listening to her stories of adventure, it was enthralling!!!

I was transferring some old files to a new computer, and came across this, it was from a year I lived in Mexico. I was writing a lot at the time, and I had a blog so I could kind of keep a diary of shit.

I met a lot of really cool peeps. This little old lady named Ginette was definitely one of them.

I was  probably pretty buzzed when I wrote it lol. Enjoy!

OMG I have to post this, it will be really long, please feel free to ignore it, I just had to write it down.

I had the most amazing, bizarre day. I went down to a little sports bar called Escondido’s to watch my Seahawks football game. haven't gone to this bar before, it is kind of off the beaten path, a guy told me about it, it is a really low key little place in a very Mexican part of PV.

I was in there watching the game and this little old lady comes in and sits down beside me, it was weird, this is a sports bar, full of guys watching football, anyway she sits down beside me and pulls out her cigarettes and orders a beer, I'm thinking she has to be in her 80's! I was totally intrigued with her. I asked her how she was doing and she said "I'm a little bored today", I’m like damn this old lady is awesome!  So I asked her why she is bored and she said “life is just a little boring, for me these days” and she lit up a smoke and had a pull on her beer…what! I ended up talking with her more than watching the game, just listening to her stories of adventure, It was enthralling!

You have to picture this, I am in a sports bar where guys are going crazy watching football in an open air Mexican bar, in shorts and a tank top, with dogs and roosters running around outside, this is definitely off the beaten path, and I am sitting beside a little old lady, who I assume is 80 something who is chain smoking and drinking beers like they are running out of the stuff lol.

So anyway, after a little prodding, she told me her life story, because I had to know! She was just too awesome! She said she was from Canada, said she married a sailor in her early 20's and soon found out that she didn't want any part of being a house wife, and promptly ran away. She said she worked her way around the states for about 10 years then moved to the south pacific and lived on the Islands of Tonga, for real! She lived there for 40 some odd years...She said she just wanted adventure and didn't ever want to be held down. Said she was an independent woman and had no room for a husband controlling her, this was good stuff, I was enthralled! The Seahawks had the game in hand anyway so I just let her unfold her story to me as she drank and smoked her cigs lol.

So anyway, she said after her time on Tonga she traveled around New Zealand and South East Asia (She had to be in her 60’s and 70’s at this time, what?) then thought she should settle down somewhere lol and someone told her Puerto Vallarta Mexico would be a great place for her to settle down, so she moved here six months ago and has a little apartment about a half a block from the bar lol. She plans on living out her life here, she said she just turned 81!

Then she told me I had to stay at the bar for the Sunday dinner that Laurie the owner cooks every Sunday, she said I needed a home cooked meal lol. Then Laurie the owner came over and kissed her and said how are you doing Ginette (I think that’s how you spell it?), turns out everyone knows her and they all love her, Laurie, the bar owner is from Alberta and bought this bar about 8 years ago and is an awesome lady, I picked her brain about how to buy a place down here, but I digress, this story is about Ginette. So anyway, I had to stay for the Sunday dinner which was homemade Sheppard’s pie, which was soooo good, first home cooked, non Mexican, meal I have had in months.

I met sooo many cool people and friends, I will definitely be going back to this place often. and

Ginette has told me that, if I am here for Christmas, I must come for Christmas dinner lol, is this whack or what? I am hanging out with an 81 year old lady lol, but I felt kind of protective about her, I guess everyone does.

I could tell you so much more about her and the day but I will save that for the book. Oh, after about an hour she told me she didn't inhale her cigarettes anymore lol. she figured when she turned 75 she should stop inhaling, so now she just puffs them and blows the smoke out lol...she is a character right out of a book, the book I am going to write about her 😉 honest to god it was a day right out of an Ernest Hemingway novel...this little old lady was the shit!

The way she told me I have to take care of my nutrition if I am going to live a life of adventure and to be careful of the young Mexican women that might want to woo me because they will tie you down lol...like i said, it was like being in really good novel. Ok, that’s all I can write about this now.

Peace!!
