The Evolving Slacker bought a camper van! I did! It’s quite exciting! I have been looking into RV’s for the last month or so. I think it all started out with the nice summer weather we’ve been having. So was thinking about trying to get out camping. But, I am, The Evolving Slacker, so love having all the amenities of home. In the outdoors.
I love everything about the outdoors. Especially, munching on popcorn. While watching it on TV. From the comfort of my couch, in the Westend, of Vancouver, haha. Well, I guess I shouldn’t laugh, because it’s true! I watch all the outdoor shows. And scour the torrent sites, for movies and shows, with any kind of wilderness theme.
I think some of the reason’s why I don’t, or haven’t gone out camping and exploring the great outdoors that BC has to offer are: Well #1 would have to be. I am the Evolving Slacker, and would have to leave the couch. And that is really, not a possibility lol.
Also, I have a ridiculously overblown, fear of bears, and apparently their are a lot of them in BC. I’ve always had a fear of bears. I can remember as a little kid, having dreams of bears, holding me down, and squirting toothpaste up my nose, and not being able to breath. So as you can see, my fear of bears is completely based in reality. hahaha
l am also very afraid of the dark. Bigfoot, and marauding bands of rednecks, that may or may not be zombies. There are other fears, but those are the main ones. I also probably haven’t gone camping because I had no way to take my TV with me. When you’re The Evolving Slacker, these are important considerations, you see 🙂
So my thinking was, if I get an RV, or camper van (which I guess is technically an RV). I would have the ultimate Evolving Slacker mobile! I would have four walls to protect me from all my fears, sound thinking right? I could also put a big screen TV in there!
Another reason I thought an RV would be a good idea for me, is because. Well I’m The Evolving Slacker. So an RV addresses all my needs. If I get really lazy, which is my default mode. And need to rest, I can just lay down on my bed. If I need to use the washroom I have one! I love the whole idea of being totally self sufficient. And self contained in your vehicle.
And of course there is the freedom that an RV gives you. You can basically live wherever you want. If you get tired of the view you can just start it up and head to someplace new.
So ya, I’m pretty excited about it. It is an oldie and 1986 Dodge. It has a very economical engine it’s a 5.9 liter 360 cubic inch with a four barrel haha, it just sips the gas.
I found it through an RV inspector dude. I googled RV inspector, because I don’t know shit about RV’s. And knew I would need someone, to look at any used one, I was thinking about buying.
He seemed like a nice guy. I called him a few times, before I went and looked at a few RV’s. But I didn’t like them enough, to have him come and inspect any of them.
He called me a few days ago and asked if I had found an RV? When I said not yet, he said he had just worked on one that day. And the owner said he was thinking of selling it. That it was in really nice shape for the year. So long story short I went and checked it out, and  bought it 🙂
It is now at the RV inspector dude’s place. He is going over all the mechanical stuff. Getting everything up to snuff. I told him to do everything needed, to make it as dependable as you can, make a 31 year old camper van be.
Even if it’s a few thousand dollars, it’s still soooo much cheaper, than what you would pay, for a newer RV, so I didn’t mind.
Looking forward to many adventures with the old girl! I think I will call her The Whale!
Exactly what really encouraged me personally again, however, seemed to be your rationale men and women would like to discuss the situation once they see their own friends commenting on the same thing.
Agree…I would like to figure out how to get a message board up, but am such a slacker…
